I worked at the hotel the HBO film crew stayed while filming this documentary. They were the nicest group of people and by far my most memorable guests. I no longer live in Beatrice but I remember when they released the Beatrice 6 from prison and when they raised the sales tax.

It’s sad he has chosen to not communicate with anyone in biological or step families. His stepmother stood by him when he shot his father and he was released on bail to her. His bio mom and sister missed him and looked for him when father basically kidnapped and ripped him out of their lives. They could give love and support. I saw him on kill or be killed. He wouldn’t change anything? I understand he felt had to in that moment but if not doing it in anger or pay back would think, even if couldn’t do anything at that time, would have circumstances be different. That didn’t feel had to kill him. His affect seems very flat. He did not have good childhood and glad he no longer in that situation but concerned about him. Really hope gets care he needs and resources. Needs therapy. His flat affect is concerning.

How does a family court get a request that states mother mentally imbalanced (imbalanced 🤣 is what he wrote) and they don’t investigate but just go to another state and remove (kidnap) the child. No notification to the mother, no paperwork so she has no idea where her child is or who/why taken. Please explain. How did they just take a complaint of one parent and go remove a child with no investigation no proof of what he out in his paperwork? And actual go to a different state from where the father put in the request!!!! How did that happen? How is that allowed?

I went back to Beatrice a few years ago for my great Aunt Verna’s funeral. There was a play going on that weekend regarding the Beatrice 6. A bunch of the family members from both sides as well as one of the attorneys were all staying at my hotel. I spent hours one night talking with the sister of the guy who spent the longest time locked up. Sadly he passed away shortly after he was exonerated and released.
